From 1 May to 10 June at the Regional Ethnographic Museum, you can see the exhibition “The Alafranga Time”.

It will send you back to the 19th century when the “A la franga style” became popular and reflected the influence of European culture on our city. You will have the opportunity to see up close the interior decoration and furnishings of the houses of the Old Town, which gave it its charming atmosphere of that era. In addition, many various objects from the collection of the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv, which shows how life changed at that time, can be seen by the visitors.

“Alafranga” refers not only to architecture but also to lifestyle – refined behaviour, manners, and even fashion trends in clothing. The old houses of Plovdiv hold this unique blend of Eastern traditions and European influences, which gave them their charm and personality.
