In 2021, the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv expanded its presence in the Old Town with the acquisition of a second historic property. By order of the Mayor of Plovdiv, the museum was granted the right to manage, free of charge, the house of Nevena Atanasova, also known as the House of the Angels. Located at 20 Saborna Street, the building is designated as an immovable cultural property of local significance for its architectural and historical value.

The house has a built-up area of 129 square metres and comprises four levels: a semi-basement, two above-ground floors, and an attic. From the very beginning, the vision was to restore and adapt the building to serve as a new museum venue, housing part of the museum’s rich ethnographic collections while also providing space for a museum education centre.

At the same time, artist Dimitar Dobrev made the generous decision to donate to the museum his remarkable collection of more than 1,200 irons, assembled over four decades from countries around the world.

This donation laid the foundation for a unique new museum attraction. On 21 November 2025, four years after the property was entrusted to the museum, the House of Nevena Atanasova—one of the first women in Plovdiv to work professionally in the field of fashion—opened to the public as the only Museum of the Iron in the Balkans. Today, it is the city’s newest and most technologically advanced exhibition venue, featuring an open-storage display concept that provides visitors with direct access to the collection. The building also houses the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv’s museum shop, offering a selection of publications, souvenirs, and locally inspired gifts.
