PHOTO GALLERY AND FINE ART
Over 3,000 photos are stored in the Photo Gallery. The collection of the photographer Krum Savov is of exceptional value. It reflects the collecting activity of the founder of the museum, Stoyu Shishkov. These are over 1,000 large-format photos representing the lifestyle and culture of Plovdiv, the Rhodopes and the Sredna Gora Mountains from the 20’s and 30’s of the 20th century. The collection is supplemented by photographers such as the Karastoyanovi brothers, V. Velebni, D. Kolarov, A. Tomov, etc., whose photo-essays document from the end of the 19th to the first half of the 20th century.   The works of fine art are over 220 sculptures, plastic arts and paintings – oil paints, graphics, and watercolours. Among the most valuable canvases is Ivan Mrkvichka’s classic – “Market in Plovdiv” (1888). Works by prominent Bulgarian artists are stored in the fund. Among them are Simeon Velkov, Asen Dochev, Kosta Forev, Georgi Bozhilov – Slona, Dimitar Kirov, Boris Dochev, Kolyu Vitkovski, Darena Georgieva, Todor Azmanov, Tsviatko Siromashki, and others. In gratitude to the International Biennale Masters of Caricature, over the years the fund has also received an impressive collection of caricatures from all over the world.
