Object in Focus in The World of the Iron

Our third consecutive Object in Focus is an early 20th-century English boudoir iron, part of the donation by the artist Dimitar Dobrev. In the 1920s, the boudoir became a true symbol of female emancipation and autonomy, where the modern woman managed her own style and daily life. To maintain their outfits without the need for servants, ladies used the elegant boudoir iron. It operates on solid fuel tablets (such as the well-knownMETA fuel), allowing for rapid heating without smoke, soot, or the need for electricity. Its design is reversible and exceptionally practical – while you iron using one side, the other is already heating up from the internal fuel chamber, allowing for continuous work simply by flipping it over. For added convenience and safety, the appliance can be set to stand on its wooden handle. Being extremely compact and portable, this boudoir iron became an indispensable companion for the modern traveler.
