Most exhibits are from the mid-18th to the end of the 19th century. The museum also houses authentic coppersmith, goldsmith and shoemaker’s workshops, with their tools. They provide insight into the work of these guilds during the Revival Period when unique examples of our tangible culture were created.

The Textiles and Clothing Fund is the largest in the museum and has preserved one of the richest collections of traditional costumes from different ethnographic regions in Bulgaria. It includes urban clothing in the ala-franga style and underwear, the appearance of which is also connected with city fashion.

According to their size and purpose, the rest of the cultural properties are divided into two large sections – large-format (carpets, rugs, felts, mattress fabrics, quilts) and small-format (towels, tablecloths). The dated and inscribed carpets from the middle and end of the 19th century bring great pride to our institution.

Over the years, the Clothing and Textiles Fund has been the subject of several research studies and publications and an important resource for educational programs. It is the basis of many exhibitions presented both at home and abroad.

Here you can find the furniture that belonged to the first Plovdiv mayor, Atanas Samokovliev, the bedroom of Antonio Collaro – one of the previous owners of the Kuyumdzhioglu house, or a set for the ladies’ salon made of pink plush and grey silk damask, which belonged to the wife of the French ambassador in Plovdiv Champoiseau.

Worthy of attention is the rich collection of crystal mirrors, clocks, gas lamps, chandeliers, and porcelain and silver tableware purchased from major European cities. The collection of trade trunks and family chests, dating from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century, is also impressive.
