The Regional Ethnographic Museum in Plovdiv is in full preparation for the Thirteenth International Cartoon Biennale.
The official opening of the event will take place on October 1st at 6:00 PM, and this year’s theme is “Wine and Love. Love and Wine.”
A distinguished jury of renowned cartoonists – Tsocho Peev, Irien Trendafilov, and Nezhna Filipova – together with the Director of the Regional Ethnographic Museum in Plovdiv, Associate Professor Dr. Angel Yankov, and the President of the Higher School of Agribusiness and Regional Development, Associate Professor Dr. Svetla Dimitrova, reviewed the artworks of more than 70 artists who submitted entries by the July 31st deadline.
After much deliberation, heated debates, and of course a lot of good humor sparked by the amusing cartoons, five of the best cartoon masters were selected. They will be awarded at an official ceremony on the eve of the biennale.
The theme of this year’s edition centers on the timeless connection between wine and love – an extraordinary pair that time cannot destroy.
Wine and love intoxicate, enchant, and turn life into a brighter and more exciting experience, leaving behind a bittersweet aftertaste.
This topic allows the artists to interpret with humor and creativity the relationship between these two concepts – from romance and passion to irony and the comic aspects of life.
The participants are many and diverse, representing nearly the entire globe – from Argentina to Montenegro, from Portugal through Cyprus and China, all the way to Syria.
