Series of Events "Exhibit in Focus" at the Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv
On November 1, 2024, at 14:00, on the occasion of National Enlighteners Day, we are launching a new initiative called “Exhibit in Focus.” This series of events is dedicated to unique items from the museum’s collection that are not part of the permanent exhibition and are rarely displayed to the public. On National Enlighteners Day, which is dedicated to the enlighteners and all those who have preserved our nation’s spiritual values throughout the centuries, we will pay special tribute to one such figure—Metropolitan Nathanael of Ohrid from Plovdiv. Visitors will have the chance to view rare personal items of his, including a bishop’s staff and a one-of-a-kind wooden chest, adorned with various symbols created using the intricate, antique technique of “marquetry,” also known as “vegetal gold” for its striking visual effect.
The guest speaker will be artist Michaela Danailova, who, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Angel Yankov, the museum’s director, and historian Petar Daskalov, will share fascinating insights into the life of Metropolitan Nathanael, the historical value of his wooden chest, and interpretations of its symbols.
We look forward to welcoming you on November 1 at the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv, as we celebrate together National Enlighteners Day!
